(OUT OF THE COLD)

I'm sitting in a marquee on top of a hill just out of Dunedin, NZ,on the longest
night. I'm there along with 2000 others, dancing in the cold to celebrate the
solstice.

ambient a. Surrounding; hence ~ENCE n., (esp.) surroundings.[f. F ambiant or f.
L ambiensentis part. of ambire go round (ambi- on both sides, ire go)]

In the tent is the ambient zone...where warn-out trippers go to get away
from the beat and tired things go to sleep. A trio is playing on machines. For
the most part this involves that nice stuff which lulls one to sleep
(one of the musicians has a web site called sleeplytime -
http://www.coffee.co.nz/sleepytime).

But one element is out of place

"What is that fuckin sound.
Its not part of it is it?.
I wish they would turn it off."

It is a part of it. A sound which steadily loops around. A high pitch whoip, whoip, whoip...
Around and around, hardly changing. Sometime speeding up, slightly,
sometimes changing pitch, but always returning. It was 'electronic' and not very nice,
keeping a rhythm where one usually doesn't want it.

The sound was messing things up...fully. Trippers were getting pissed off at
this noise which just wouldn't go away.

The culprit, however, loved it!
